The Best of Europe: Amalfi Coast’s Positano Beach

The Amalfi Coast cliffside village of Positano was recently ranked as one of the six best beaches in Europe according to Elite Daily, an entertainment and news site.

Entertainment and news site Elite Daily, recently advised its readers on the most beautiful European cities for travelling. They also covered the best places to stay along the coast of the Italian continent, and on the list was the popular Amalfi Coast package holiday destination Positano.

On Elite Daily’s list of the best beaches in Europe, Positano on the Amalfi Coast took fifth place. Described as "the ideal place for tourists, but also for students who study abroad in search of sun and sand”, the American site noted that this Italy beach resort has much to entertain its visitors, in addition to its sublime coastal vistas. Top of Elite Daily’s list of attractions to visit during a Positano beach holiday was the magical Blue Grotto sea cave, which is embedded in the coastal cliffs of the nearby island of Capri. However, there are many more attractions to enjoy on your Positano beach holiday, such as:

  • Sorrento and its famous lemon groves (the lemons from this region are used to make the Italian liqueur, limoncello)
  • Anacapri – the main town on the island of Capri, where you can admire beautiful gardens and take in views of the natural Faraglioni sea rocks
  • Ischia, which is an idyllic island off South Italy’s coast that is known for its laid-back island lifestyle
  • Pompeii and Herculaneum – the lost cities of Italy and some of the world’s most important archaeological sites where you can journey back to ancient times!

Elite Daily’s Best Beaches

Elite Daily’s list of the best beaches in Europe featured an eclectic mix of countries and resorts, ensuring something for everyone.

Taking first place was the Island of Brac, in Croatia, a beach completely formed of pebbles and characterised by crystal-clear sea waters and snow-capped mountains on the mainland.

In second place was the beach of Vernazza on the Cinque Terre in Liguria, Italy.

In third place, Elite Daily ranked the Island of Corfu in Greece. Unlike the rocky beaches of Croatia, the Greek islands are distinguished by a soft white sand and are generally hidden in the mountains.

In fourth place, readers could find the beach of the island of Lagos in the south of Portugal, which is known for its high cliffs on the Atlantic Ocean.

As mentioned earlier in our travel blog, Positano on the Amalfi Coast took fifth place – an accolade that testifies to the stunning scenery that can only be enjoyed in this part of South Italy.

Finally, in sixth place was La Barceloneta in Barcelona, Spain. Many of the city's main clubs and restaurants sit right on the sand of this beautiful beach, making it an excellent choice for those wanting to enjoy vibrancy and city life on their Europe beach holiday.
