Monte Faito Cableway Will Be Open for Christmas

Following its increased popularity in 2018, the Monte Faito cableway will be open for the first time over the Christmas season.

Monte Faito is a mountain in the Monti Lattari, a small mountain range in Southwest Italy. One of the best ways to admire the beauty of the mountain range is via the cableway, which departs from Castellammare Di Stabia.

Although the cableway is a popular attraction, it has traditionally been closed over the winter season. However, following record use in 2018, the cableway will remain open over weekends during Christmas 2018, giving visitors the chance to admire the mountain’s snow-capped beauty.

The decision to extend the cableway’s open season was taken following record numbers of users, with forecast data suggesting over 85,000 travelers will have used the service in 2018. This translates as €236,515 in sales – a massive boost to the tourism economy. This exceeds previous record numbers seen in 1980 and 2016.

Incentivised by these numbers, the EAV, which runs the service, announced that the cableway will be open on weekends in November and December from 2 pm to 10 pm. This includes during the Christmas holidays, such as the Immaculate Conception, Christmas and the Epiphany, when it would normally be closed.

Good to know...

The Faito cableway connects Mount Faito with the town of Castellammare di Stabia and is managed by the EAV, the Autonomous Body of Volturno.

It was opened for the first time in 1952 and its function has always been mainly for tourism. However, it was closed in 2012 for major maintenance and redevelopment work, finally reopening in 2016.

It can carry 35 people at a time and it takes 8 minutes to travel the full route.
